In the western countries, kitchen designs are generally categorized into three segments depending on the themes and styles. However, in Asian kitchen design, there are multiple categories. They include Japanese kitchen design, Korean kitchen design, Chinese kitchen design, Indian kitchen design, Thai kitchen design, West Asian kitchen design and Indonesian kitchen design.

While the kitchen designs of China, Thailand, Indonesia and Korea have a number of similarities, kitchen designs of Japan, India and West Asia are unique and distinct since their culture and tradition varies. Asian kitchens are minimal in accessories and products, but are highly functional and efficient. The color associated with kitchens are bright and dark. For instance, brick red, green and blue are commonly used colors for the kitchen walls.

Most of the Indian homes, especially those in the urban areas, have granite or marble floored kitchens since they are available in plenty locally. Of late, marble is gaining acceptance for flooring since it produces a cooling effect. In China, wooden flooring is preferred for the kitchens due to its easy availability.

Most of the Asian kitchens also double as dining rooms since there is adequate space. Installing a small dining table made of rosewood or teakwood is the popular choice in Asia. The Thai kitchen design and Chinese kitchen design sports dining tables made of bamboo, which are also popular.
