Asian Kitchen Design
In the western countries, kitchen designs are generally categorized into three segments depending on the themes and styles. However, in Asian kitchen design, there are multiple categories. They include Japanese kitchen design, Korean kitchen design, Chinese kitchen design, Indian kitchen design, Thai kitchen design, West Asian kitchen design and Indonesian kitchen design.
While the kitchen designs of China, Thailand, Indonesia and Korea have a number of similarities, kitchen designs of Japan, India and West Asia are unique and distinct since their culture and tradition varies. However, you can design an authentic Asian kitchen design by combining components of kitchen designs from each of this country. In fact, Asian kitchen design is in vogue among some households.
The single most outlining factor in Asian kitchen design is the 'personal touch' given to the kitchen. In some of the traditional Asian countries like West Asia and India, women attach special importance to kitchens. Often kitchen is considered home within the home for women in Asian countries. Consequently, one can find many accessories and things related to a woman's daily life in an Asian kitchen.
Asian kitchens are minimal in accessories and products, but are highly functional and efficient. Modern appliances can be used, but since cooking is traditional, kitchens are larger and consume space. The kitchens are sleek in design and a lot of efforts go towards the final finishing of countertops, cooking area, kitchen floor and cabinets.
Most of the Asian kitchen designs rely on wood and natural materials. For instance, if you want a Chinese kitchen design for the cabinets, opt for bamboo. Cabinets made of bamboo are good for ventilation considering that the Asian countries fall under the tropical region.
The color associated with kitchens are bright and dark. For instance, brick red, green and blue are commonly used colors for the kitchen walls.
In Indian kitchen design, one can always opt for granite, marble or tiles for the floor. Most of the Indian homes, especially those in the urban areas, have granite or marble floored kitchens since they are available in plenty locally. Of late, marble is gaining acceptance for flooring since it produces a cooling effect. In China, wooden flooring is preferred for the kitchens due to its easy availability.
Most of the Asian kitchens also double as dining rooms since there is adequate space. Installing a small dining table made of rosewood or teakwood is the popular choice in Asia. The Thai kitchen design and Chinese kitchen design sports dining tables made of bamboo, which are also popular.
