Kitchen Faucet Repair

The kitchen faucets are the most used faucets in the entire house after the bathroom faucets and taps. Despite installing the best of the faucets, there are chances that the faucets in the kitchen can break down owing to extensive use.

Before the plumber could make the necessary repair, you should possess the necessary skills to repair it for the time being. Whenever a faucet malfunctions, the first thing that the household has to do is turn off the mains that supply water to the faucet. The main connections are usually separated for each room in the house. Since kitchens extensively use water, the connection from the main water supply line is separate. Ensure that you locate this main connection and turn off the valve.

Next, drain the faucet completely dry. There should be no water in the faucet or the main pipe connected to it. Without the faucet going dry, repairing will not be possible. It will not only lead to flooding of the kitchen, and mess up the entire floor. So ensure water supply to the faucet is disconnected.

Once the water supply is disconnected, use the wrench spanner and turn the faucet carefully. Ensure that the faucet is not turned in the other direction. There could be three reasons for the failure of the faucet. Examine the faucet for each failure before taking up the repairs.

After unscrewing the faucet, check the threading of the faucet as well as the water supply pipeline. There are chances that the threading or groove might have become worn out due to prolonged exposure to water. The threading and grooves can be repaired on a temporary basis by winding a thread around them. This will not only give greater stability, but also provide the much required strength to keep the faucet and the main water supply line intact. This will also arrest the trickling of water from the point of contact between the faucet and the main water supply pipe.

The second reason for the faucet to malfunction could be the damage caused to the spring in the faucet. This spring is present in the tap used to regulate flow of water. Trace the spring and test it for functionality. There is no option other than replacing the spring.

The third factor that can lead to the malfunctioning of the faucet can be the washer of the tap. This washer consists of both metal and rubber components. Usually, the rubber components give away easily. Replace the rubber component to fix the faucet.
